I used to believe that hitting the goal would change everything.
The number in the bank account.
The body in the mirror.
The car in the driveway.
I thought: once I get there — I'll feel it.
The relief. The pride. The fullness.
And then I got there.
And I felt it.
For about a week.
Maybe two.
And then?
I was already looking for the next thing.
I've watched this happen with almost everyone around me.
The entrepreneur who hits his first €100k year.
Happy for a month. Then chasing €200k.
The person who loses the 10kg.
Proud for a few weeks. Then focused on the next 5.
The couple who finally renovates the living room.
Excited for a weekend. Then already thinking about the kitchen.
It's not ingratitude.
It's not weakness.
It's just how humans work.
We are wired to chase.
Not to arrive.
So if the destination never really delivers, what are we actually doing this for?
Here's what I've come to believe:
The goal is not the goal.
The goal is who you become on the way there.
There's an old saying:
The journey is the destination.
And the older I get, the more I understand what that actually means.
Because think about it:
We only ever live in the present moment.
The day you hit your goal?
That will also be a present moment.
Just like today.
And if you can't find meaning in this moment —
you won't find it in that one either.
The car won't fix it.
The number won't fix it.
The body won't fix it.
Not for long.
What actually creates lasting fulfillment?
Becoming.
The person who saves €40,000 doesn't just have more money.
They have discipline. Delayed gratification. Financial clarity.
The person who loses 22 lbs doesn't just have a different body.
They have consistency. Self-respect. A new relationship with their health.
The person who builds a business doesn't just have income.
They have resilience. Creativity. The courage to keep going when it's hard.
The goal gives you direction.
But the becoming gives you everything else.
So the real question isn't:
"How do I reach my goal?"
It's:
"Who do I need to become to reach it?"
What habits do I need to build?
What old patterns do I need to replace?
What version of me shows up every day, not just on the good days?
Because that version?
That's where the real fulfillment lives.
Not at the finish line.
In the daily becoming.
The finish line will always move.
But the person you're becoming?
That stays.

Not what you want to have,
but who do you need to become to get there?
