There are two kinds of tired.

The first comes from doing too much.

Too many responsibilities.
Too much pressure.
Not enough recovery.

That kind of tired needs rest.

But there’s another kind.

It appears even when your calendar isn’t full.

You sleep enough—but still wake up heavy.

You finish your tasks—but feel strangely unsatisfied.

Nothing is falling apart.

But nothing feels fully alive either.

There’s a name for this:

Rustout.

It’s the exhaustion that can appear when you feel underchallenged, underused or disconnected from meaningful progress.

Not because you have nothing to do.

But because too little of what you do asks something real from you.

The same routine.
The same safe choices.
The same abilities left unused.

YOU DON’T ONLY LOSE ENERGY FROM WHAT DRAINS YOU.

YOU ALSO LOSE IT FROM WHAT NEVER BRINGS YOU ALIVE.

This doesn’t mean burnout isn’t real.

And it doesn’t mean rest is unnecessary.

It means rest can restore an exhausted body—

but it can’t give direction to a life that feels stagnant.

That’s why another quiet weekend may not solve the feeling.

You might not need more time on the couch.

You might need a challenge that wakes something up inside you.

A conversation you’ve been avoiding.
An idea you keep postponing.
A responsibility that scares you because it would require a stronger version of you.

Not more pressure.

Meaningful resistance.

Something difficult enough to stretch you—but meaningful enough to energize you.

So here’s today’s Action Spark:

Ask yourself:

“When was the last time I did something difficult that made me feel more alive afterward?”

Don’t redesign your entire life today.

Just spend 15 minutes returning to something that challenges the part of you that has been sleeping.

Because maybe you’re not missing energy.

MAYBE YOUR ENERGY IS WAITING FOR A REASON TO RETURN.

On Wednesday, we’ll explore why too much comfort can leave you just as tired as too much work.

Until then, hit reply and tell me:

What part of you currently feels underused?

I read every single one.

2 minutes. Your URL. A customer profile worth using.

Most founders can describe their product. They can't describe their customer. Not in a way that actually changes how they sell.

HubSpot for Startups built a free tool to fix that. Paste in your URL, answer a few quick questions, and it generates a structured profile of your best-fit customer. Firmographics, buying triggers, the works.

Takes 2 minutes. No spreadsheet required.
