“How’s everything going?”
“All good. Just busy.”
You change the subject.
Later, you return to the same problem you’ve been circling for days.
You’ve tried another approach.
Read another article.
Stayed up another hour.
And someone who might have helped walks away believing you have everything handled.
You told them you did.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE YOU’RE STUCK?
When you’re used to being capable, asking for help can feel strangely exposing.
You want to arrive with the answer.
Be the reliable one.
Show people the finished version.
So you wait until you’ve figured things out before mentioning that they were difficult.
But that leaves very little room for anyone to stand beside you while the difficulty is happening.
The people who care about you may be missing information you’ve never shared.
They see your results.
They hear “all good.”
They assume you’ll ask if you need something.
And you keep waiting until the need feels serious enough to justify asking.
GIVE SOMEONE SOMETHING SPECIFIC TO HELP WITH.
You don’t have to explain your entire life.
Start with the part where another person could make a difference.
For example:
“Could you read this page and tell me where it gets confusing?”
“Could you walk me through how you handled something similar?”
“Could you listen for ten minutes? I don’t need advice yet.”
Each request gives the other person a clear way to respond.
They can tell you whether they have the time or experience.
And you can receive support while keeping ownership of the situation.
Try this today:
Choose one person you trust and complete this sentence:
“I’m working through ________. Would you be willing to help me with ________?”
Send it before you’ve solved the whole thing yourself.
Let someone meet you in the middle of the process.
You can be capable and still pull up a second chair.

P.S. Thank you for reading. I appreciate the time you give these words.
P.P.S. On Wednesday: You hoped someone would notice what you needed. They didn’t. What happens before that disappointment becomes resentment?
